7th Grade Class – Blog Activity #7

December 1st, 2006 by stjohns

As almost teenagers, you’re all at an age when things are changing within your body and your mind. You’re no longer little kids, yet you’re not really teenagers yet. The way people (your teachers, parents, etc.) treat you is also slowly changing. You used to be more pampered and watched over. Now you’re expected to all be independent and responsible. You have projects to complete, assignments to turn in, practices to go to, friends to meet, and so many other deadlines and such to accomplish.
Given these expectations of you, think about the questions below and answer them honestly in your own blogs as a new post.

  1. Do you think your parents can / should trust you with things that you do in school, at home, and else where? Why do you think so? or Why not?
  2. Do you think your teachers can / should trust you with things that you do in school (regular schoolwork), at home (assignmentss/projects), and else where? Why do you think so? or Why not?
  3. What are your main complaints about school at this point in your life?
  4. What are your main complaints about home at this point in your life?
  5. What can you promise yourself that can make you a better person / a better student?
  6. Do you think your friends can / should trust you with things (objects, secrets, etc.) Why do you think so? or Why not?
  7. Do you think you need a lot of privacy in school / at home?  Why or why not?

Resources for Middle School Blogging

September 29th, 2006 by stjohns

Look for at least ten (10) web sites about Blogging in Middle School.  It can be articles about this subject, rules of other teachers, other middle schools that blog — various topics on blogging in middle school.

  1. Take note of these URLs (web site addresses) – copy each one and paste into a new blog entry.
  2. Write the title of the site first, then paste the URL and create a link out of this URL.
  3. After each URL, write a few sentences about the website — don’t just copy their text, write the description of the website on your own words.  What is the site about (don’t just write – this site is about middle school blogging)?  What specifically about middle school blogging?
  4. BE NEAT IN YOUR WRITING AND PASTING OF URLs.

For example:

  • St. John’s Blog VI
  • http://stjohns.edublogs.org
  • This site is a portal for the 7th grade class that uses LearnerBlogs.org for their blogs.  Students blog about their experiences, also about ethical dilemmas, and other writing assignments.

#7B – Adding images to posts

April 20th, 2006 by stjohns

For Post #7B, follow the instructions I show you in class on how to add a picture to a post.  Remember — there’s a THUMBNAIL and then there’s the ORIGINAL size.

Write about:  was it difficult or easy to add pictures?  Can you add just any image you want?  What’s something to remember when you’re “getting” an image from another website?
