Blog Activity #15B

April 28th, 2006 by stjohns

Okay, students … here’s an interesting blogging exercise.  Once you’re done with your own entries, visit your other classmates’ blogs to see what they wrote.  Fill in the blanks for the following. Re-type the phrases in your posts (you can copy and paste) and put in your own answers (in place of the topics in parentheses).  Think about the phrases first before completing your sentence.  Remember … this is all about you  :) .

I am (two special characteristics)
I wonder (something you are actually curious about)
I hear (an imaginary sound)
I see (an imaginary sight)
I want (an actual desire)
I am (the first line of the poem restated)

I pretend (something you actually pretend to do)
I feel (a feeling about something imaginary)
I touch (an imaginary touch)
I worry (something that really bothers you)
I cry (something that makes you very sad)
I am (the first line of the poem repeated)

I understand (something you know is true)
I say (something you believe in)
I dream (something you actually dream about)
I try (something you really make an effort about)
I hope (something you actually hope for)
I am (the first line of the poem repeated)

I worry (something that really bothers you)
I cry (something that makes you very sad)
I am (the first line of the poem repeated)

I understand (something you know is true)

Blog Activity #14B

April 28th, 2006 by stjohns

If you are up-to-date with your blog entries (up to #13B), then take the time today to visit your classmates’ blogs, read a few entries, and leave comments on their blogs. Keep in mind our blog rules when you leave comments on others’ blogs.

If you haven’t checked your “shoe” pictures … go ahead and visit our photo blog.  :)

Blog Activity #13B

April 27th, 2006 by stjohns

Bullying.

How would you define “bullying” in your own words?  If you have been bullied before, how did you feel?  What could you do to stop others from bullying you?  If you see one of your friends being bullied, what will you do?  Why?

Blog Activity #12B

April 27th, 2006 by stjohns

Write about your experience doing a web search under time pressure.  Did you win the contest?  Was it difficult to find the answer?  Why do you think you had a hard time finding the correct answer?  Is it just the speed of the internet connection?  How about the search terms you used — what were they?

Blog Activity #11B

April 25th, 2006 by stjohns

For #11B, I’d like you to visit the class PhotoBlog found on:  http://www.splashblog.com/stjohns2012/

Look through the latest pictures and you’ll see photos you took and ones that I took of you during blogging class.

TO DO:

  1. Copy the link above to the photo blog site and make a NEW LINK — add this link into one of your link categories and call the new link:  “SJS 2012 Pics“.
  2. Figure out which picture you took (the ones with the computer screens).
  3. Add that picture to a new entry (#11B) and write something about the picture (when you took it, how you held the camera, how difficult/easy it was to do, etc.)
  4. In entry #11B, also write down that you added a new link (to your list of links) called SJS 2012 Pics.

Continue working on the rest of your entries if you are a bit behind.

Photo Blogging …

April 24th, 2006 by stjohns

To prepare the students for a project similar to the “15 Things” pproject we did last quarter, I demonstrated to students how to use the digital camera.  I taught one student, guided him in taking a picture, and let him off.  I instructed him to teach the next person in line (class #2) and then that person teaches the next one … and so on and so forth.  I just had them take pictures of the computer screens of their classmates while they’re posintg on their blogs.

Once everyone has experienced using the camera, we will start with the Photo Blogging project using their English vocabulary words as the target “things” for the image subjects.

We’re using an “old” SONY Digital Camera – DSC-S30.  It’s a 1.3 MegaPixel camera — top of the line about 5 years ago!  :)   Now, it’s still perfect for taking pictures for posting on the web.

Blog Activity #10B

April 24th, 2006 by stjohns

Welcome back to a new week of blogging!  If you haven’t completed your blog cleanup, do so now!  Remember … look back on Blog Activity #9B and backwards to see what you missed — what you need to catch up on.

If you’re done with the clean up, we will have Blog Sharing on Thursday — show and tell — all blogs will be displayed through our projector.

Also, you can start writing for Blog Activity #10B:

  • What have you been doing in Math class?  How do you like your current topics/activities in this class?  If there’s one thing you can change about what you’re doing in Math class to make it even better for you, what would it be?  Why?
  • Think about the same questions above for:  Science, English, Social Studies, P.E., and Computer Classes.

Okay … that’s it for now.  :)

Blog Activity #9B

April 21st, 2006 by stjohns

Today, Friday the 21st of April, is our blog catch up day.  Now is the time to finish your required incomplete posts.  Also, for #9B — write about our “surprise” contest.  How did you feel if you won?  If you didn’t win?  What else should we have a contest on?  What other prizes (practical ones)?  Are chocolate prizes cool?

For #8B also, it’s time to CATEGORIZE your blog entries.  You have to put all in a category which is NOT “Uncategorized”.

Finally, check all your classmates’ blogs and check your link on their blogs.  If someone got your link wrong, send them a comment to request for them to fix the link to your blog.  :)   Enjoy!  have a great weekend!

#7B – Adding images to posts

April 20th, 2006 by stjohns

For Post #7B, follow the instructions I show you in class on how to add a picture to a post.  Remember — there’s a THUMBNAIL and then there’s the ORIGINAL size.

Write about:  was it difficult or easy to add pictures?  Can you add just any image you want?  What’s something to remember when you’re “getting” an image from another website?
