Have a great Spring Break!
March 14th, 2006 by stjohnsThe blogging activities we went through, problems we encountered, fun things that we discovered along the way — these were all computing activities meant for you to understand a little bit about communicating online in the world today.
As you recall, we had lots of rules we had to stick to. (Can you name 5 blogging rules? Don’t cheat! Write these things down from memory!) These rules were really guidelines for you. You had a choice of whether to follow or break them. Some of you challenged the rules and you received a few consequences — some more striking than others. Almost all of you followed our blogging rules — you were praised in this responsibility of yours — you expressed maturity and trustworthiness in almost all of our online activities.
As the quarter ends, I leave you with a few remarks on blogging.
- Continue to use your blogs! Yes … they are yours! But do so responsibly. And since you’re still students here and the blogs were assigned to you in a class at St. John’s, I’ll still monitor your online activities from time to time. Sometimes, you might need to be reminded about certain rules.
- Continue being responsible bloggers! It’s cooler to follow rules and be responsible and mature. Whatever you say and however you look at it, there’s no fun in dealing with negative consequences of your actions.
- Develop your blogging/online skills. You will be using blogs and other online tools the rest of your life! You are very fortunate to be learning about these now and having the tools and the time to practice!
- Share your knowledge and experience with others. Your classmates in the other 6th grade class will blog next quarter. I encourage you to help them through this process.
- Finally, study hard and play right! You’ve many years of schooling ahead of you. Work hard now and you will reap great benefits later on.
Enjoy your Spring Break. I won’t be around next week, you will have a substitute teacher. You will still work on a few blog entries … and then that’s it! It has been a memorable quarter.
