Blog Activity #32

March 13th, 2006 by stjohns

The quarter is about to end. Blog about the following:

  1. What has been your experience so far in this one quarter of computers?
  2. What have you learned so far about computers and blogging?
  3. What lessons in life have you learned during our blogging activities?
  4. What do you think blogging is for in your life as a 6th grader?
  5. Will you be using blogs even after this class? Why? Why not?
  6. What can you tell others about what you learned in this class?
  7. What was a memorable moment for you in the class?
  8. What was a moment in class you would rather forget?
  9. Do you think you will be able to work with WordPress on your Guam web site project next quarter with Mrs. Naz?
  10. Will you recommend blogging to others? Why? Why not?
  11. The next class of 6th grade bloggers will start next quarter.  What are three pieces of advice you can give them (about blogging)?

I’m a bit disappointed that only 4 student have done the blogging work, Mr Maiquez.

However, those students were the ones who were enthusiastic about it all along and I think it is a honest appraisal of their learning and attitude towards blogging.

Well done for sticking out the project so long, everyone. I am sure you have trailed a path for us all to follow. I will never forget the two months we have spent together.

    1. I have learnt a lot about WordPress and how it works. And how great it is to install pictures. I have talked with a very intelligent group of students and teachers who have embraced the technology fully. Well done. I have learnt a lot about handhelds and podcasts and how they work. Thank you Rolly and students.

    2. I have learnt about moderation and how appropriate it is, and how easy it is to delete bad comments and how hard it is to learn from them. I have learnt about changing backgrounds and putting in animations and creating separate pages. I have learnt how to deal with crashes more easily. I have learnt heaps about using Windows XP and blogging software, for which I am very proud.

    3. I have learnt to appreciate other cultures even more, like Korea and Japan. I have learnt to treat non-English-speaking students with respect and how to work successfully with other people.

    4. When I was in Grade 6 I think I would have used blogging for my projects and for learning things instead of notebooks. I also would have used it to write stories and poems and share them around with other people.

    5. Yes, I will be using blogs, and I hope you will too.

    6. I can tell them the great things I have learnt about Guam and the young people who live there. I can tell them how great WordPress is as a blogging platform and how easy it is to add links!

    7. When I found you on LearnerBlogs back in the last week of January. When Clarissa posted about Full Metal Alchemist. When Jessica posted 25 pictures of puppies. All the Valentines’ Day posts and the Chinese New Year posts – those were excellent. Brian’s and Stephen’s posts about new energy sources for Guam. And when the Headmaster of St Johns’ decided to join in the blogging fun.

    8. When blogging was stopped because of the bad comment that a student made. But you made the greatest and most moral comments because of it. Well done.

    9. I hope so. I would love to see your Mexico projects when they are all done.

    10. Yes, I will recommend blogging especially with this software because it is an easy and cheap way of communicating and it develops higher thinking skills and better and more efficient emotional intelligence and language skills.

    Thank you Rolly and class.

    Bronwyn:

Thank you very much for being a very loyal reader and commenter of my students’ blogs. They truly learned a lot from such an avid and instrumental blogger. I still remember the excitement in the students voices when a lot of them received their first posts — and were from you. Much as I would love to have been the busier commenter, my other duties in school were piling up as well — I wasn’t able to devote as much time to commenting on my students’ blogs. Perhaps in future, I’ll come up with a better system.

The assignment (#32) was given today … I’m certain all students will post on their blogs soon enough and complete this. It was agreat adventure — glad to have made you part of it. And, speaking of “parts,” there’s another part to this! There are two 6th grade classes. The ones blogging now are from the first class. The 2nd class will start blogging in April after our Spring Break. I do hope you visit us again and join in on the blogs. The current bloggers are so excited to have their other 6th grade friends to join in on the blogging project — they will act as “guides” in this upcoming class of bloggers. Hope to see you in the next blogventure! :)

When is the date in April when the other sixth-graders will begin blogging?

    When will they end?

  4.   stjohns Says:

The second group of 6th graders will start the first week of April. I will introduce the site first … they’ll probably be able to blog soon after that. It goes on for the rest of the 4th quarter of our school year — so they end early June 2006. That’s another group that I’m sure will be fun to work with. Different people — different temperaments. :)

  5.   Bronwyn G Says:

Yes, that’s true. It’s always exciting to work with different temperaments.

Thank you for the dates, Rolly.

I’ll be interested to see what they remember about the blog rules and also their reactions. Good to read Phoebe’s reactions and all their good advice.
