This quarter (3rd qtr – SY 2005-2006), 6th grade students at St. John’s School will be introduced to the worlds of LINUX, open source software, blogging and web content management systems in their Computer class. Using Gaggle.Net, WordPress and Joomla, students will first create their own email addresses using Gaggle.Net’s safe, for-school email system. Students will then create their own blogs using WordPress — open source software. Several projects including digital portfolios of work in their current classes will populate their WordPress blogs. Finally, they will work with another open source program called Joomla — which is a type web content management software. The goals of the projects include:
